The reopening of airports in Italy

At the moment, the Italian situation related to airports is bound by the latest Decree of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. There are currently 23 operating airports in Italy allowing EU tourists & UK citizens to enter, including the airports located in central and northern Italy of Bergamo Orio al Serio, Florence Peretola, Milan Linate & Malpensa, Ancona, Bologna, Genoa, Pescara, Turin, Rome Ciampino, Venice Tessera, Pisa and Rome Fiumicino.

As regards the south, the airports of Alghero, Lamezia Terme, Bari, Brindisi, Cagliari, Catania, Lampedusa, Naples Capodichino, Olbia, Palermo and Pantelleria have returned to function.

Airports: the updated situation in Europe:

The reactivation of air traffic concerns all of Europe, in fact, important airports have been reopened across the continent, with some countries already thinking of easing the restrictive measures.

France

France adopts a less severe approach, in fact, from 16 May, the airports are operational and they are open for EU members, Iceland, Monaco, Switzerland & Saint-Martin with no certificates or restrictions on passengers.

On June 2, the country's hotels, bars, restaurants and cafés were reopened. However, the most country’s  visited landmark, the Louvre, is expected to reopen on July 6.

From July 1, France will reopen borders for countries outside Schengen gradually.

Spain

Private flights are already active with certain permissions. However, the good news is that Spain will reopen border from June 21, allowing EU travellers, except Portuguese travellers, to reach one of the most visited summer destinations, Ibiza.

Summer without beaches is not a summer, Spain set to reopen in June while hotels in some parts of the country have already been permitted to resume business.

Regarding tourist from non-Schengen countries, they be allowed to enter Spain after July 1.

Portugal

The restrictions on European flights have been ceased since 15 June for travel reopening. Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports are operational for tourism reasons for both EU & Schengen travellers. While arriving to Portugal from Spain will remain closed until July 1.

Greece

The tourism season has started in Greece on June 15 for locals as many hotels, restaurants & resorts could reopen, also the country is open for tourists from Italy, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Malta, Israel, Romania, Hungary, Finland & Denmark. While reaching the most popular summer greek islands for beach getaway would be possible after July 1.

Malta

Malta is planning to reopen its doors on July 1, for Italian travellers with limitation for travellers from Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Piemonte, Also, for travellers from Greece, Slovakia, Cyprus, Latvia,

Switzerland, Norway, Estonia, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Austria, Luxembourg, Ireland & Czech Republic will be allowed to enter.

By mid July, borders will be expected to reopen for all countries.

United Kingdom

On the contrary of popular destinations easing travel restrictions, UK is choosing to apply strict regulations on travellers.

On June 8, planes have returned to fly. However, hotels should be able to reopen in early July, considering the new restriction rules on all EU border, which came into effect on June 8, that consists of obliging all arrivals to provide an address where they are required to stay in 14 days self-isolation.

Airports operating in the rest of the world

If in Europe attempts are made to slowly return to normal, the situation in the rest of the world is uneven and rather confusing. Latin America, Argentina closed their air traffic until September 1, and direct flights to Brazil are still suspended until June 22.

While destinations such as Mexico and Thailand are planning to reopen region by region in the coming weeks.

Maldives
